Circle plans to enter about 40 developing and emerging countries, its CEO and chairman Jeremy Allaire told Reuters.

He said blockchain is now moving past early users and into the mainstream.

Allaire spoke at the IMF and World Bank meetings in Bangkok. He said demand for stablecoins is growing naturally in Southeast Asia, Latin America, Africa and the Middle East.

People and firms there want to be part of an online economy, he said.

Two recent deals back the Circle USDC expansion. In September, the firm agreed to buy Tazapay, a Singapore payments firm, in an all-share deal worth US$400 million.

The deal still needs approval from regulators, including the Monetary Authority of Singapore. Binance has also put US$100 million into Circle as a strategic investor.

Allaire said the US GENIUS Act, which takes effect in January 2027, will give the world legal digital dollars.

Bank groups in the US and Europe are building their own stablecoins. Allaire sees this as healthy competition. He said banks can no longer keep new players out.

Payments between AI agents have also lifted USDC use, he added. The agents pay fractions of a cent as they do web research or collect live data.

Fast AI growth brings greater security risks, Allaire warned. Firms that run financial systems face rising threats from skilled attackers and swarms of automated agents.

Anyone not worried about this is ignoring the problem, he said.
